Single Track Mixing: The Art of Sonic Balance

Your song is written, the arrangements are final, but the overall sound feels flat, cluttered, or imprecise? Professional single track mixing is the critical bridge between a collection of separate recordings and a coherent, emotional piece of music. We transform your raw stems into a commercially competitive mix that translates perfectly across all playback systems.

At our studio in Linz, we combine technical precision with a critical ear to assign every instrument its own dedicated space within the frequency spectrum. Mixing is not merely about adjusting volume; it is about creating depth, width, and a clear sonic hierarchy that guides the listener exactly where the emotional heart of the song resides.

The Path to Your Perfect Mix

Our workflow is transparent and engineered for maximum quality. We operate in four defined phases to ensure that no technical oversight hinders your artistic vision.

01 Analysis & Preparation

Upon receiving your stems, we verify all technical specifications. We analyze the dynamics, phase coherence, and tonal balance of the individual tracks to build a strategic roadmap for the mix.

02 Static Mix & Balancing

First, we lay the foundation: level balancing, panning, and coarse EQ cleaning. We carve out space for the lead elements and ensure the rhythmic framework is stable and punchy.

03 Dynamics & Spatial Effects

This is where the song comes alive. Using targeted compression, saturation, reverb, and delay, we create a three-dimensional space and ensure consistent volume distribution across the entire track.

04 Finalization & Review

The mix is verified on multiple reference systems. You receive the first version for review, after which we perform final adjustments within the agreed revision rounds.

Who is this service for?

Our single track mixing service is primarily designed for independent music producers, beatmakers, and bands who have recorded their material in home studios or various project spaces. Often, the final acoustic control or specialized hardware required to create a mix that sounds professional on the radio, in a club, or on streaming platforms is missing.

Whether it is a complex pop production with 60 tracks or a minimalist techno piece, we help you realize the sonic vision of your composition without compromise. For artists who require an objective, external perspective on their production, our Linz-based studio provides the necessary technical security.

How the collaboration works

The process begins with a detailed briefing. You send your tracks digitally and provide reference songs to give us a clear understanding of the desired aesthetic direction. We maintain close communication via email or phone to ensure that every decision made during the mix aligns with your artistic goals.

After the first delivery, you have the opportunity to provide feedback. We value precise instructions (e.g., "vocals in the second verse need to be more present" rather than "it doesn't sound quite right") to utilize the revision phases efficiently. The entire process is designed so that you retain full control over your work while we handle the technical execution.

What you should prepare for the mix

To achieve an optimal result, the quality of the source files is paramount. We require your tracks as "stems"—individual, unmerged tracks. Please adhere to the following technical minimum requirements to avoid artifacts and quality loss:

  • File Format: Uncompressed WAV or AIFF files.
  • Sample Rate: Minimum 44.1 kHz (higher rates such as 48 kHz or 96 kHz are welcome).
  • Bit Depth: Minimum 24 Bit to ensure sufficient dynamic range.
  • Headroom: Please leave a peak headroom of approximately -6 dB to -3 dB to prevent digital clipping during the mixing process.
  • Naming: Clear track labels (e.g., "Kick_In", "Lead_Voc_Main") to avoid misunderstandings.

For more detailed information on preparation, please refer to our guide: How to Prepare Stems.

What you receive upon completion

After the mixing process is finished and you have given final approval, we deliver a package of high-quality files ready for mastering. You will receive:

  • The final mix as a WAV file (24 Bit, in the original sample rate).
  • An MP3 version for quick reference and previewing.
  • An instrumental version (without lead vocals) upon request.
  • A TV-mix version (without background vocals) if required.
  • A brief technical report regarding the chosen level structure.

Delivery times and scheduling

We prioritize reliable planning. The average delivery time for the first mix draft is 5 workdays after receipt of all correct data and the deposit. Should you have an urgent project, we offer a rush fee option where prioritization is provided for an additional charge.

Please note that the total project duration depends on the speed of your feedback cycles. We reserve specific time slots for our clients to ensure consistent high quality without time pressure.

What is NOT included in this service

To keep costs transparent, we clearly define where single track mixing ends. The following services are not part of this package:

  • Mastering: The final loudness optimization and tonal correction for the entire single/album is a separate process (see Stereo Mastering).
  • Audio Editing: Time-aligning instruments or precise pitch-correction tuning of vocals is a separate service.
  • Re-recording: We mix existing material; we do not record new instruments or voices.
  • Arrangement Changes: Moving song sections or deleting/adding instruments must be completed before the mixing process begins.

Pricing and Value Added Tax (VAT)

Our prices are transparent and fair. As a registered company in Austria, we apply the statutory VAT of 20%. For private individuals, the final price includes VAT. Business customers (B2B) can reclaim the stated tax according to national tax laws.

Billing is based on a flat fee per track. Additional revision hours exceeding the three included rounds are charged separately. All details regarding payment terms can be found in our Terms.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many revision rounds are included in the price?
The standard package includes three revision rounds. One round consists of you sending us a consolidated list of desired changes, which we then implement in a single pass.
Can I send my tracks as MP3s?
No, for professional mixing, we require lossless formats (WAV/AIFF). MP3s introduce quality loss that is amplified during the mixing process and negatively impacts the final result.
What happens if I don't have final vocals yet?
We can create a mix using demo vocals, but for the final result, the definitive recordings are mandatory, as the dynamics and frequency characteristics of the vocals influence the entire mix.
How is payment handled?
We work with a 50% deposit at the start of the project. The remaining 50% is due after the completion of the final revision round and before the delivery of the high-resolution master files.
