Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Barbreshift Help Center. To make the collaboration process as seamless as possible, we have compiled the most common questions from our clients across music production, mixing, and mastering. Here you will find detailed information regarding our technical requirements, business terms, and the entire workflow—from the initial file submission to the final delivery of your master.

If you have a specific question that is not addressed here, please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly via our contact page. We value transparent communication so that you know exactly what to expect for your project and how we can work together to achieve high sonic quality for your music.

Ordering and Delivery

How does the ordering process work at Barbreshift?

The process begins with a non-binding inquiry via our contact form. After discussing the project scope, we will send you a formal quote. Once you confirm the offer, a deposit of 50% of the total amount is required to reserve your slot in our production schedule. Work on your track begins immediately after the payment is received and the correct files have been delivered.

How long does it take to receive my finished track?

Our average delivery time is 5 workdays. However, please note that the official delivery deadline according to our terms and conditions can be up to 7 workdays, depending on the complexity of the project and the current studio load in Linz. We always strive to deliver results as quickly as possible without compromising acoustic quality.

Is there an option for urgent delivery?

Yes, for projects with extremely tight deadlines, we offer a rush service. For this option, a rush fee of 30% is added to the standard price. Please check with us during your initial inquiry to ensure we have the necessary capacity in our schedule to accommodate an express request.

How many tracks do you accept per month?

To guarantee artisanal quality and the necessary focus for every project, we limit our capacity to a maximum of 12 tracks per month. This ensures that every project receives the full attention of our engineers and is not rushed through the process.

File Preparation

In what format should stems be submitted for mixing?

For optimal results, we require your files to have a resolution of at least 24-bit and a sample rate of at least 44,100 Hz. We recommend sending files as WAV or AIFF exports. Please ensure that the tracks do not clip; maintaining sufficient headroom (peak margin) is essential so that we have enough room for dynamic processing during the mixing stage.

Should I apply a limiter to my mix before mastering?

No, please send the mix for mastering without any limiters on the master bus. If the track has already been pushed to maximum loudness, we cannot effectively process the dynamics. Send us a file that sounds clean but still has enough headroom to avoid distortion during the mastering process.

What happens if my files do not meet the technical requirements?

Should the submitted files have a bit depth of less than 24-bit or a sample rate below 44,100 Hz, we will contact you to request a higher-quality version. Processing only begins once the minimum technical requirements are met to ensure professional end-quality.

What is a recommended way to transfer files to the studio?

We recommend using cloud services such as WeTransfer, Dropbox, or Google Drive. Please ensure that all tracks are clearly named (e.g., "Kick_In", "Lead_Vocal_Main") to avoid misunderstandings during the mixing process and to increase efficiency.

Revisions and Changes

How many revision rounds are included in the price?

Each of our standard services includes up to 3 revision rounds. A revision round consists of a collected list of requested changes which we then implement in a single pass. This helps us maintain focus and bring the project to a targeted conclusion.

What happens if I need more than three revisions?

If further changes are requested after the three included rounds, we charge an additional revision hour. This is priced at 75 € incl. VAT per hour. We therefore recommend formulating your feedback as precisely and comprehensively as possible.

Can I make basic arrangement changes after mixing has started?

Changes to the arrangement or adding new tracks after production has started are considered project modifications and may incur additional costs. We ask that you submit the final version of your stems before we begin work.

How should I phrase my feedback for revisions?

The most helpful feedback includes timestamps and concrete descriptions (e.g., "01:24 - Vocals slightly quieter" or "Chorus - Snare needs more presence"). Please avoid vague terms like "it doesn't sound right," as this can lead to more revision rounds that may become billable.

Formats and Delivery

Which files will I receive at the end of the project?

By default, you will receive your finished master as a high-quality WAV file (24-bit) as well as an MP3 version for quick review. Upon request, we can also create instrumental versions, clean edits, or TV mixes, provided this was agreed upon in the initial offer.

Will I receive information about the loudness of my track?

Yes, we provide a brief technical report with every master. This includes measured values for integrated loudness (LUFS) and True Peak. These data points are important so you know how your track will react on various streaming platforms and whether it meets industry standards.

How long does Barbreshift store my project data?

We archive your project files and stems for a period of 6 months after the project is completed. After this period, data is permanently deleted for privacy reasons and storage optimization. Please ensure you back up your final files and session backups independently.

Do you help with preparation for vinyl or specific club systems?

Yes, we offer a specialized "Platform Optimization" service for this. We pay particular attention to phase coherence and bass energy to ensure that the track does not skip on vinyl and sounds stable and punchy on large club systems.

Legal and Payment

Who owns the rights to the finished master?

Barbreshift is a service provider. All copyrights to the music and recordings remain entirely with the client. We claim no rights to your works. However, we kindly request a mention as the mixing/mastering engineer in the credits of your release.

How does billing work for business clients (B2B)?

For registered companies, we offer a payment term of 14 days after invoicing. However, the 50% deposit remains mandatory in the B2B sector to secure production capacity. All details can be found in our terms and conditions.

Are the prices inclusive or exclusive of VAT?

All final prices listed on our website for private customers include the statutory Austrian VAT of 20%. In our price lists, we provide both the gross and net amounts for better clarity.

How do you handle the confidentiality of my unreleased music?

The confidentiality of your work is our top priority. We treat all submitted materials as strictly confidential and do not publish any excerpts without your express written consent. Further information can be found in our privacy policy.
